Holiday service closures
Library services are not available between 24 December 2025 and 5 January 2026.
From Wednesday 24 December at 12pm:
- AskUs, UQ eSpace help, consultations, and literature searches are closed.
- Herston Health Sciences Library collections and space is closed. The training room is available 24/7 with your UQ ID card.
Other Library spaces will close (or switch to 24/7 UQ ID card access) for the holidays from 5pm.
Access 24/7 spaces and collections
Selected 24/7 spaces and collections are available with your UQ ID card:
- Central Library and the collection
- Duhig Tower
- Herston Health Sciences Library training room (Herston campus)
- JK Murray Library and the collection (Gatton campus).
Holiday contacts
UQ Security will patrol library spaces as usual and may ask to see your ID card. Spaces will be cleaned regularly.
- Contact UQ Security about any safety concerns or maintenance emergencies during the break.
- Use our contact form to report any issues with Library computers, printers, and facilities. We will attend to these issues from 5 January. If you continue to have trouble, please move to another computer or printer.
Prepare for the holiday closure

AskUs are available to help you in person and by phone and chat until 12pm on Wednesday 24 December.
Please remove any food or containers that you have in library fridges.
Take your belongings with you as spaces close
As libraries close on 24 December, you can move to a 24/7 space to continue studying.
- Remember to take your belongings with you. You won't be able to enter closed spaces to collect them.
- Contact UQ Security if anything gets locked inside. They may be able to assist you.
Borrowing and requesting dates
Collections in Central Library (St Lucia campus) and the JK Murray Library (Gatton campus) are available with your UQ ID card. Other physical collections are closed over the holidays.
Electronic resources are available online as usual.
Returns
We suggest you return your loans by Wednesday 24 December or wait until libraries reopen. Your loans will be extended through the holidays until 5 January.
Your return options during the break include:
- St Lucia campus: use the external return chute at the Architecture and Music Library. Students and staff can also return their loans on Level 1 of Central Library with their UQ ID card.
- Gatton campus: students and staff can return loans inside the JK Murray Library with their UQ ID card only
- Herston campus: use the external return chute at the Herston Health Sciences Library.
Requests
- Requests, including document delivery, placed on or after 24 December will be processed from 5 January 2026.
- Requested items awaiting collection will be kept for collection until 9 January 2026.
