Accessible resources

Request accessible course readings

We can provide accessible versions of required learning resources in Word, PDF or HTML format for students who have registered for this service. Make an appointment with a Student Adviser to discuss your situation and activate UQ and Library support services.

Submit your requests as early as possible – we aim to process them within 10 working days. 

Request accessible required readings

Please be aware:

  • if the materials provided are in a language other than English, it is your responsibility to ensure the accuracy of the converted material
  • we can only provide commercially available sub-titles or automated transcriptions for video and audio resource
  • we provide services relating to the conversion of course readings; we do not offer content creation services such as translations or descriptions of source material
  • we do not provide material such as lecture notes or slides.

Digitised open access materials

  • Internet Archive Ebooks and Texts provides more than 15 million freely downloadable books and texts, many available in several formats including EPUB and DAISY.
  • Librivox Free Audiobook Collection offers free audiobooks read aloud by volunteers. Books can be listened to or freely downloaded in various formats.
  • CORE provides access to more than 135 million open access research papers, mostly in PDF format.

Find accessibility tools

UQ students and staff can use SensusAccess to convert files into alternative and accessible formats. This self-service tool converts documents, images, web content, and text into accessible formats such as text, audio, braille and ebook.

The Digital Essentials accessibility module offers suggestions for various accessibility tools such as text-to-speech, speech-to-text and extracting text from an image.
