The University of Queensland Library acknowledges with deep sadness the passing of internationally renowned author and UQ alumnus Dr David Malouf AO.

David’s papers, including literary drafts, correspondence and diaries are housed in the Fryer Memorial Library of Australian Literature along with his prize-winning publications.
The 2024 Fryer Lecture in Australian Literature was delivered by David’s friend Emeritus Professor Nicholas Jose on 10 December 2024 at Brisbane’s Customs House.
A version of the lecture was later published in The Sydney Review of Books as David Malouf’s Surprises.
We give thanks for David’s life and contribution to Australian letters. His legacy will be long lasting.
