Level 3 of Central Library reopened on 14 April 2026 following lighting upgrades to create a more comfortable, low-light study space.
If you prefer a low-light study environment, visit Level 3 to enjoy the soft overhead lighting and tables equipped with individual lamps.
About the low-light upgrades
The lighting on Level 3 was upgraded to replace most of the overhead lighting outside the collection area with wall-washed lighting around the perimeter of the floor.
The new lighting is recessed into the ceiling and provides smooth, dim and reflected light onto the walls. This helps reduce overall brightness while maintaining safe lighting levels throughout the space.
Low-light spaces are popular with students and staff who prefer darker, low-sensory study spots. Gentle, dim lighting can help create calm and comfortable study vibes.
