Welcome to our new and returning students! We've made some changes to our services and libraries over the Inter-semester break. Catch up on what's new and different for Semester 2.

Changes for Semester 2, 2025

Library Search has been upgraded

Library Search has a fresh look and feel and some great new features. You can now:

  • search inside journals, magazines or newspapers
  • bulk export up to 5000 search results
  • search by barcode
  • request items for the collection using a new dedicated purchase request form.

Change to printing from personal devices

Following an update to the Library printing service, some students may notice that the Library printer is no longer listed on their device.

If this affects you, visit the Print from your mobile device page to set up your device.

Upgrades to the AI Student Hub

The AI Student Hub has been updated through a Student-Staff Partnership project and now includes more helpful information and active learning elements so students can check their knowledge

Assistive technology room at JK Murray Library

There is a new Assistive Technology Room for students with disability on Level 1 of the JK Murray Library. Eligible students can book the room via UQ Book It. Visit Support for students with disability for more information.

More recent changes to library spaces

  • Expanded low-light study area on Level 3 of Central Library for students who prefer less overhead light and the option of a table lamp.
  • Self-service laptop lockers at Dorothy Hill, Dutton Park, Herston and JK Murray libraries now have a mix of 24-hour and 28 day laptop loans. Visit the Laptop loans page for more information.

Events and training

Get to know your Library

Register for Library orientation sessions during O-Week and Connect Week. The session connect you with information resources and other new students and include:

  • Library tours
  • More than books: Make the most of your Library
  • Get connected (Wifi and logging in)
  • Systems and Softare at UQ
  • Navigating Learn.UQ (Blackboard) and Get to know Learn.UQ Ultra.

Register for our AI panel discussion

Join our panel for Degrees of Disruption: A Critical Conversation on Learning in the Age of AI (UQ login required) as they unpack the ethical, environmental, and social impacts of AI on learning and higher education.

They'll discuss the importance of information and digital literacy skills in the age of AI, how to balance AI use with authentic learning, making ethical use of ethically flawed tools, and student concerns about AI. The event is happening:

  • on Wednesday 20 August 2025, 1–2 pm
  • at Level 1, Central Library, St Lucia campus.
