We are pleased to announce the successful Open Textbooks @ UQ grant applications for our second round in 2025!

Awarded grants

Strategic grant ($6,000)

The Augmented Mind: Judgement and Decision Making in the Age of Artificial Intelligence
Professor Jason Tangen
For use in PSYC3052 Judgement & Decision-Making

This open textbook explores the timeless principles of human judgement and decision-making (JDM) through the lens of modern cognitive science, while critically examining the transformative impact of artificial intelligence.

The grant will also support the development of The Constructed Mind: The Surprising Science of Everyday Thinking for PSYC2371.

Create a new textbook ($4,000)

Britain, Empire, and the World: A History, 1600-1956
Associate Professor Geoff Ginn
For use in HIST2417 Britain, Empire and the World

The book aims to develop a thorough overview of Britain's historical development since the seventeenth century, with a particular emphasis on the British presence in an increasingly global empire in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Adapt an open textbook ($2,000)

Principles of Disease: Parasitology
Professor Malcolm Jones
For use in VETS2006 Principles of Disease

The book covers parasites of animals, their biology, how they gain access to the hosts, what harm they do. The parasites are listed by taxonomic groups (insects, ticks and mites, works and protozoa). The book is rich in resources to enable veterinary professionals to identify parasites for our parasitology labs and later in clinical practice.

CAUL OER Collective grant

Dr Adriana Díaz from the School of Languages and Cultures has been successful in securing a CAUL (Council of Australasian University Libraries) OER Collective grant in the Create category for Resources and Strategies for Gender Expansive Language Education. The book is a collaboration with Dr Riccardo Amorati and Dr Elena Pirovano from the University of Melbourne.

This book will serve as an indispensable resource for language educators dedicated to integrating gender-just linguistic practices into their teaching.

Congratulations to the grant winners

Congratulations to our successful applicants and we look forward to seeing the books you create!

The grants are made possible by the Library’s Open Textbooks @ UQ program. We support the adoption or creation of open educational resources that are free for everyone. To date, the Library has saved our students over $500 000 on their textbooks.
