UQ Library welcomes visitors from the general public to use our spaces and on-site collections. As part of the wider community, you can:
Get a Library membership
Your library card is required for borrowing.
We will email you once your membership application is processed. Collect your library card from any AskUs service point during service hours.
Collections
Anyone is welcome to visit our locations and use our on-site collections, including our cultural and historical collections. Visitors also have access to:
- a selection of our databases and eBooks that can be accessed from Library computers
- key digitised collections from Fryer Library on UQ eSpace
- some UQ theses - find out about ordering copies of UQ theses
- Library Search to discover resources.
Our staff can advise on how to access materials from UQ Library locations, including Fryer Library.
If you become a UQ Library community member, you can::
- borrow our books
- place requests
Reciprocal membership may be available for students and staff of other universities.
Using the Library
Library spaces
Community members and visitors are welcome to use our library spaces. Check our building hours for community members and visitors. Facilities available, and library floor plans can be found for each library via the library locations page.
Print and scan
Printing and scanning is available to visitors. To print you must:
- Register a print account and purchase some credit
- Login to a computer as a guest or use the multifunction printer
Library computers
You have guest access to UQ Library computers. The username is "libguest" and the password is "libguest".
You can:
- create and print a document
- access a selection of our databases and eBooks
- access Libre Office
You cannot:
- access Microsoft Office products
- access the internet
Wifi at UQ
Visiting staff and students of other universities
UQ deploys Eduroam wireless; UQ Wireless Network information.
Visitors can log on to a Library computer in one of our locations to access a selection of our databases and eBooks.

Join the Friends of the Library to receive invitations to a range of events throughout the year. These may include author talks, lectures, exhibition tours, behind-the-scenes tours, and social events.

The University's St Lucia, Gatton and Herston campuses have many museums to visit.
Campus tours
Tours take about an hour; ask questions and see UQ up close.
Tour times:
- St Lucia campus during Queensland school holiday periods
- Gatton campus on request.
