UQ Library welcomes visitors from the general public to use our spaces and on-site collections. As part of the wider community, you can:
Get a Library membership
- Once your membership is processed, we will mail your library borrowing card to the address provided in your application.
- Your library card is required for borrowing.
Community members whose memberships were confirmed prior to 13 August 2020 (while collections were closed):
Email nsi@library.uq.edu.au to request that your library card be posted to you. Please include the details of your current postal address.
Collections
Anyone is welcome to visit our locations and use our on-site collections, including our cultural and historical collections. Visitors also have access to:
- a selection of our databases and eBooks that can be accessed from Library computers
- key digitised collections from Fryer Library on UQ eSpace
- some UQ theses - find out about ordering copies of UQ theses
- UQ Library search
- UQ Visitor Wireless
Our staff can help you access materials at other UQ Library locations.
If you become a UQ Library community member, you can::
- borrow our books
- place requests
Reciprocal membership may be available for students and staff of other universities.
Using the Library
Library spaces
Community members and visitors are welcome to use our library spaces. Hours of access, facilities available, and library floor plans can be found for each library via the library locations page.
Print and scan
Printing and scanning is available to visitors. To print you must:
- Buy and register a print/copy card
- Login to a computer as a guest or use the multifunction printer
Library computers
You have guest access to UQ Library computers. The username is "libguest" and the password is "libguest".
You can:
- create and print a document
- access a selection of our databases and eBooks
- access Libre Office
You cannot:
- access Microsoft Office products
- access the internet
Wi-Fi at UQ
It is possible to access free wireless internet on campus.
Visitor Wi-Fi in 3 steps
- In your wireless network list, select visitor-UQConnect
- Open up a new page in an internet browser on your device
- Read and accept the terms & conditions

Join the Friends of the Library to receive invitations to a range of events throughout the year. These may include author talks, lectures, exhibition tours, behind-the-scenes tours, and social events.

The University's St Lucia, Gatton and Herston campuses have many museums to visit.

Tours take about an hour; ask questions and see UQ up close.
