Computers in the Library
The Library provides workstations for student use throughout our library locations.
- All workstations in the Library run Microsoft Windows.
- Always log out when you leave to secure your account.
- Save your files to USB or cloud storage, files saved to the computers are deleted daily.
- Computers log out after 15 minutes of inactivity. Save your work regularly and pay attention to the prompts on the computer.
Use of our computers is governed by the UQ Information and Communication Technology Policy and Acceptable Use of UQ ICT Resources guidelines.
Using library computers
Computer availability
Library computers can be heavily used during teaching periods and you may be required to queue for a computer:
- it is not acceptable to try to reserve Library computers when you are not actively using them
- if you leave a computer unattended for 20 minutes, another user can move your personal property aside (but NOT remove it) and use the computer
- treat people and their property with respect at all times.

- Select a location and a floor to see the floor map.
Available computers are marked in green and computers in use are purple.
Training rooms
The Library runs a range of training sessions and may reserve library training rooms for this purpose. During training sessions computers are unavailable for general use.
Use the training schedule on the screen outside the room to see whether the room is available.
Software
Standard applications
The Library provides a standard set of software on our workstations for students and staff. We cannot provide software for personal use.

Additional software in ZENworks
Additional applications are available through the ZENworks application on library computers.
Open a ZENworks application
After logging with your UQ username and password:
- Open the ZENworks application
- Locate the software by selecting a folder
- Double click the software title to open it

Device docks (connect for screen, power and keyboard)
Connect your USB-C compatible laptop or device (this includes some tablets) at a study spot with a 24-inch screen, keyboard, and mouse.
- Charge your device while you study. Your device will charge through the USB-C connection.
- Work across two screens (you may need to change your device settings).
- Move and rotate the screen to your liking including to portrait orientation.
