What is iThenticate?

iThenticate is a text matching software tool, that will compare documents you submit to an extensive database of web pages and scholarly content, and produce a similarity score and report. The software allows you to review you work, to check for originality and to ensure you have cited non-original work appropriately. iThenticate also allows you to share documents you have submitted with supervisors and colleagues.

iThenticate is available to all UQ staff and Higher Degree by Research (HDR) candidates. 

FAQs

Which account should I use?

You are required to use your student account for HDR related work. Note, it is possible to accidently create both a student and staff account as iThenticate automatically generates accounts based on the username you are logged in with.

Which originality report settings should I select?

If you are using iThenticate for personal use or for submission of thesis drafts, you may select the setting to facilitate the checking of a particular aspect of the document i.e. select to highlight quotes so you can easily check your referencing of quotes throughout the document.

Is iThenticate available to UQ undergraduate students and post graduate by course work students?

No, iThenticate is designed for use by researchers and Higher Degree by Research (HDR) candidates. Other students who access the iThenticate link will receive an information page about the purpose of iThenticate and who it is available to.

UQ undergraduate students and postgraduate by course work students should submit documents to Turnitin to obtain an originality report if instructed by their course coordinator.

Why is a document I previously upload to iThenticate no longer available?

You may be logged in with the wrong account. iThenticate will create you an account based on the username you are logged in with. You may have accidently created both a staff and student account. Note, you are required use your student account for HDR related work.

If you are logged in with your staff account go to logout.uq.edu.au to logout and then log in using your student username and password.

How can I share a document with my supervisor as they are not listed?

You supervisor may not have set up an iThenticate account. Ask them to log into iThenticate as this will automatically create an account for them.

How do I select to share a document with my supervisor when there are multiple accounts with the same name?

If you supervisor has the same name as another UQ iThenticate user ask them to log a job with help@learn.uq.edu.au to have their account name updated to include their middle name or school (or another identifier).
