We'll try to get you whatever you need for teaching, learning and research. There are different ways to request different types of items.

Please check Library Search for the item you need before placing a request as much of our collection is available immediately online.


Items you require may already be:

  • on loan to another client
  • at our warehouse, or
  • at another UQ campus

If a book is on the shelf at your campus, you must retrieve it yourself. Clients with disabilities may request staff assistance.

Items you've put on hold are kept at the "Requested items" area in the library selected as the pickup location.

Please note that the "Requested items" areas in Central and Dorothy Hill Engineering and Sciences Libraries are accessible to UQ students and staff 24/7 using their UQ ID card. Community borrowers and other membership types will only be able to collect requested items from this library during staffed service hours

Journal articles and book chapters

Place a document delivery request for:

  • items we don't hold in the UQ Library collection
  • scanned copies of journal articles and book chapters from our print collection


Fryer Library material

Special collections housed in the Fryer Library are available for viewing in the reading room but must be requested ahead of your visit.

Placing a hold

  1. Log in to the Library website
  2. Find the item in Library Search and click on its title
  3. Click on or scroll to Get it

  1. Choose your pickup location from the available list
    • if it is at your campus, you will not be able to place a hold if the item is available
    • if you're an external/remote student, select Home Delivery

  1. Optionally: specify a 'not needed after' date, whereby we can automatically cancel the hold for you
  2. Click Place a hold

We will email you when your request material is available for pickup. Go to the hold shelf at your requested library location to collect your item or ask our staff for assistance. The item will be kept for you for 5 days. Go to My Account to check or cancel your requests/holds.

For books not held by the library, place a document delivery request or request a purchase.
