Welcome back! Catch up on what's changed over the break

We've made some changes in our libraries over the mid-semester recess. Catch up on what's new and different for Semester two.

Changes to Dorothy Hill Engineering and Sciences Library

As part of creating student space at St Lucia libraries, we have some made changes to the Dorothy Hill Engineering and Sciences Library.

Finishing touches to the level two study space

  • Green paint to brighten things up!
  • Artwork from the UQ Art Museum
  • A photo and quotation from Professor Dorothy Hill
  • Additional bench space and computers
New carpet, paint and other decorations in the foyer, level two, Dorothy Hill Engineering and Sciences Library.

Preparations for level two to become 24/7 space

We expect to be able to open level two of Dorothy Hill Engineering and Sciences Library as a 24/7 space during semester two. We are upgrading swipe card access to enable this to happen.

Level four of the building closed

As discussed in Creating student space at St Lucia libraries, level four of Dorothy Hill Library has closed. Over the next two years, we will transform levels one and two of the Social Sciences and Humanities Library (Duhig North, building #12) into modern student space with more seats, power and natural light. We will be moving staff from level one of Social Sciences and Humanities LIbrary into level four of the Dorothy Hill Library to enable this to happen.

Collection updates

More collection points for requested items at St Lucia

From semester two you can collect requested items from three libraries at St Lucia as our trial of a single collection point concludes. Pick up locations include Social Sciences and Humanities Library, Dorothy Hill Engineering and Sciences Library and Architecture and Music Library.

Access the UQ Gatton Library collection 24/7

The UQ Gatton Library is now open 24/7 with your UQ ID card!

Learning resources are now available as 24-hour loans

We have increased the loan period for in-demand items, like learning resources, from two hours to 24 hours. This means you'll be able to keep required and recommended readings in our High-Use collection for 24-hours before having to return them.

High-Use items borrowed from Social Sciences and Humanities Library and the UQ Gatton Library should be taken back to the High-use area and returned on a self-service machine. For details, see:

Biological Sciences Library Book Dispensing Machine retired

The Biological Sciences Library Book Dispensing Machine was retired and removed in July. The learning resources (required and recommended course readings) from the machine have been returned to the collection. They will be available 24/7, with your UQ ID card, from the High-Use and Requested Items section on level one of Social Sciences and Humanities Library.

Green screens in selected group rooms

We have painted green screens in two group meeting rooms for filming video assignments. You can find and book these rooms in UQ Book It by selecting the "Green screen" filter. Rooms with a green screen are:

  • 12-N105A Social Sciences and Humanities Library
  • 93-204A Biological Sciences Library

Find videos on using green screens on Lynda.com.
