The Otto Hirschfeld Memorial Collection contains 900+ works on the history of medicine. A generous grant in 1958 by the Otto Hirschfeld family commemorating the late Dr Otto Hirschfeld, physician and UQ Chancellor from 1953 to 1957 enabled the establishment of the collection. Notable works in the collection include information on or by E.S. Meyers, Jean Martin Charcot, Andreas Vesalius and William Osler. More contemporary works on Australian health practitioners, hospitals and services include:
- History of the Brisbane Hospital: a pilgrim's progress
- Just as the twig is bent: the life of Dr Mabel Josephine Mackerras
- The flying doctor story 1928-78
- Beneath the surface: medical imaging, radiotherapy, nuclear medicine and children's healthcare: a Queensland chronology
