Discover unpublished collections more easily
Search Fryer Library Manuscripts for detailed information about what we hold, including:
- How much material there is
- Who created it
- What kind of items make up a collection
- Any restrictions on access
- Any digitised records in eSpace
- Publications citing our collections.
Search and browse manuscript collections
You can search or browse by detailed records (archival descriptions), people or organisations (authority records), or subjects (like literature or architecture etc).
Using the search box
As you type, search will suggest related results broken into sections:
- Collections or items within them (Descriptions)
- People or organisations (Authorities)
- Subjects
Use Advanced Search to apply date ranges and other filters to your search.
View item details
Collections are catalogued using a standard of archival description called General International Standard Archival Description (ISAD(G)).
Area | Use for |

Content and structure | View description of contents of the collection. |
Conditions of access and use | Access finding aid. |
Allied materials | Links to digitised materials in eSpace. |
Explore research connections
Use the Browse button and links within records to view the connections between various collections in order to find new research material.
Search by authority records to find all of the unpublished material related to a person. This includes links to all the material they have created.
Request items
Note the item details, including:
- The name of the collection
- The reference code (e.g. UQFL598)
- Box numbers from the finding aid
Then:
- Click the Menu button
- Click Make an appointment to request access
- Book a space in the FW Robinson Reading Room
- Request your items via the link in your confirmation email.
Requested items can take up to 5 business days to arrive. They are available for use in the FW Robinson Reading Room only in the Fryer Library.

How manuscript records display and behave
We have records for unpublished Fryer Library collections in Library Search. Click the View detailed manuscript record link to get detailed information in the Fryer Library Manuscripts system.
Click Make an appointment to request access to book a space in the FW Robinson Reading Room.
Filter to Fryer Library resources
There are two options to limit Library Search results to Fryer Library resources:
- In the Collection filter, the Fryer Library Collections option will limit your Library Search results to all Fryer Library materials, including published and unpublished resources (direct link to these results)
- In the Source filter, the UQ Fryer Library Manuscripts option will limit your Library Search results even further to only Fryer Library unpublished materials (direct link to these results)
