Reading lists and textbooks
We provide your students with access to learning resources.

Learning resources
Send us learning resources by:
- Updating the Learning Resources in your Electronic Course Profile (ECP) (preferred) and
- Emailing us further readings and long lists of resources.
We will:
- Create course reading lists for your students organised by teaching week or by topic in the Talis reading lists system. The lists are available in Learn.UQ (Blackboard) and via the Library.
- Source resources, provide online access where possible and put physical items on short loans to maximise student access.
- Manage copyright and licensing agreements.
ECPs and emails are processed in the order of receipt. We prioritise access to important course materials.
Update the learning resources in your Electronic Course Profile
- Log in to the Course Profiles System.
- Review and update sections 3.1 Required Resources and 3.2 Recommended Resources.
- Click the Confirm button to send the resources (including any changes) to the Library and to School Locker.
Format and organise your resources
Include items and textbooks that are required, compulsory, essential or mandatory in section 3.1 Required Resources. Enter the recommended resources in section 3.2 Recommended Resources.
- List each item on a separate line.
- Include an International Standard Book Number (ISBN) if possible.
See Add a Learning Resource for instructions to add, edit or move a resource in your ECP.
Course reader
If you have a course reader, be clear in your course profile which readings are in the reader.
- If the reader is not produced by Print on demand (POD), you need to supply us with a copy for students to borrow. Email learningresources@library.uq.edu.au to arrange delivery.
- We will provide a copy when the reader is produced by POD.
Email us learning resources
Email learningresources@library.uq.edu.au to send us:
- further readings in your ECP listed outside the Required and Recommended readings sections
- long lists of readings (including journal articles and book chapters).
Required textbooks must be submitted via your Electronic Course Profile.
Organise your resources
We suggest using a document or spreadsheet for long lists of resources.
- Organise the materials into Required (anything required, compulsory, essential or mandatory), Recommended and Further (anything supplemental, additional, further, useful or general) reading.
- Tell us if readings should be ordered (e.g. by teaching week or topic).
- If you have a course reader, list the readings it contains.
If you are reusing an existing list of readings:
- Highlight new items
- Indicate any you would like removed.
Reading list contacts
Email learningresources@library.uq.edu.au, or contact your librarian.
Textbooks
Students are expected to buy the required textbooks. We provide a limited number of textbooks to ensure equitable access to resources.
Number of copies
We purchase items from your Electronic Course Profile in line with our Collection Management Policy:
- Required resources - one copy per 100 students (rounded up), with a minimum of two copies and a maximum of 15 copies across all campuses.
- Recommended resources - one copy of the title across all campuses.
eTextbooks
Purchasing restrictions by publishers mean that the Library often cannot provide access to eTextbooks. See eTextbooks for courses for more information.
Prescribing your own textbook
If you are prescribing your own textbook, you are required to provide sufficient copies to the Library. Email learningresources@library.uq.edu.au to confirm the number of copies and arrange delivery.
See the Use of Required Textbooks Written by Staff Procedure [150.08].
Student access to learning resources outside of semester
Reading lists are available during the semester only. Where readings are required for supplementary examinations, students can:
- access most readings via
Library Search - request document delivery to access digitised/scanned readings not available in Library Search.
