Find funding opportunities using funding databases and websites. Tips for finding funding:

  • Start early and be mindful of the deadline
  • Click through to the website of the opportunity for the most up-to-date information
  • Look to see who and what has been successful in winning the award previously
  • Evaluate if the amount of the award is worth the time it will take to apply

2. Research Professional

Research Professional is an online database of research funding opportunities and research policy news.  From the Funding tab in Research Professional you can browse and search for funding easily, and have funding opportunities from saved searches emailed to you as they arise.

Find opportunities

Research Professional allows you to find opportunities via:

  • Simple search (home screen) — where you can enter terms freely. As you type, you will be presented with suggested disciplines, funders, award types or free text
  • Advanced Search allows you to search with a combination of criteria to refine the opportunities that are presented to you

View opportunities

Once you have refined a search, there may be the icons underneath the opportunity:

  • group of people  — a consortium is required for this opportunity
  • pile of papers— it is a recurring opportunity
  • star — it is a new opportunity

Click on the title of an opportunity for the full details, including the funder's website link for the opportunity.

From the Actions menu, you can: Actions, Download, Email and Calendar

  1. Download or email (to yourself or others) the details of funding opportunities
  2. Create a calendar of the opportunity deadlines or incorporate the deadlines in to your own calendar. Watch how to set up a Research Professional Funding calendar (YouTube, 1m39s)

Set up a Research Professional account

With a Research Professional account, you can:

  • bookmark (save) opportunities
  • save searches
  • be emailed opportunities (weekly) according to your saved searches as new opportunities in that search arise.
