Inspera Exam Portal is a web browser environment to deliver digital assessments safely and securely. The browser temporarily creates a secure workstation by preventing access to unapproved resources such as websites, local files, and system functions during an exam.

If you are completing an off-campus invigilated examination using Inspera, you will need to download and install Inspera Exam Portal on your personal device.

At least one week prior to your exam

  1. Check that your device meets the minimum requirements for Inspera Exam Portal.  If you do not own a suitable device, you can borrow one from the Library
  2. Download and Install Inspera Exam Portal.
  3. Test Inspera Exam Portal on your device.
  • Log into https://uqi.inspera.com/ using your UQ Authenticate username and password
  • Scroll to Do you have a Test Code?
  • Click Register
  • Enter the Test Code: QPD-160535715
  • Open the Inspera Exam Portal application on your computer and follow the prompts
  • At the Select Test screen, choose Inspera Exam Portal Preparation (OFF-CAMPUS STUDENTS).

If you have Alternative Exam Arrangements and require access to hardware or software (such as screen readers and dyslexia font extensions), contact Diversity, Disability and Inclusion to discuss how these technologies can be used in your on-campus examination.

If you experience difficulties using Inspera Exam Portal on your device, see Troubleshooting Inspera Exam Portal guide for some solutions to common problems. If you are still experiencing difficulties, contact AskUs for support.

Exam Day Checklist

You should commence these tasks at least 1 hour before your scheduled exam time to ensure you are ready to start your exam on time.

Your exam

  1. Memorise your UQ Authenticate password, if you do not already know it. Do not rely on the ‘autofill’ function on your computer, as you will need to type your password if you are borrowing or using a UQ device.
  2. Review the Exam information provided by your teaching team (e.g., in your course site) that will describe exam day conditions, duration, permitted materials, etc.
  3. Obtain the PIN-code for accessing your exam, which should be provided by your teaching team in advance of the exam via the course website.
  4. Ensure you have gathered any permitted materials listed on your Exam Information Sheet. If you have Alternative Exam Arrangements, relevant extra permitted materials will be listed on your Personal Exam Timetable.
  5. Ensure you have your University of Queensland student ID ready. If you do not have one, please use a government-issued photo ID with your photograph and name on it. For example, overseas students who have never picked up their UQ student ID should use their passport or similar photographic identification.
  6. Your exam will appear in Inspera Exam Portal approximately 48 hours prior to the assessment date/time. If you are expecting to sit an exam that is not showing on your Inspera Exam Portal 48 hours prior to the assessment, please contact AskUs on +61 7 3335 7047 (or via https://web.library.uq.edu.au/contact-us).

Your device

  1. Ensure that your device is connected to the Internet.
  2. Ensure you have your webcam and microphone connected, but only one (1) monitor (review “System Requirements” above for more information).
  3. Ensure your device has access to power, preferably through a power cable. If you are relying on battery power, ensure your device is fully charged.
  4. Close any programs running on your computer (even if they are running in the background). These can interfere with Inspera Exam Portal and may disrupt your exam experience on the day. They will also drain your battery faster if you are relying on battery power.
  5. Log any other users out of your computer

MacOS users

  1. If you use a Mac and have multiple Apple IDs or family sharing, ensure that everyone else is logged out of all applications when you close them and out of the computer.
  2. It is recommended that you disable Siri prior to running Inspera Exam Portal, using the instructions below:
  • Launch System Preferences from your dock or menu bar
  • Find and select Siri in the menu
  • On the left, under Siri, deselect the check from Enable Ask Siri. This will turn off Siri completely.
  • Please also ensure the Dictate IM function is not activated

Your environment

Adhering to the advice below will reduce the chances of events being flagged for review in your exam recording:

  • Lighting: Ensure sufficient lighting is available on your face (without glare) so the camera can function properly during the exam. The light source should be on your face, not behind you.
  • Noise: Try to position yourself in an environment with as little noise as possible as your microphone will be recorded throughout your exam
  • Head coverings: Head coverings are not permitted, except for religious reasons.
  • Other people: ensure you are in a room by yourself for the duration of the exam as the system will flag if another person appears in the video recording or if any conversation is detected on the microphone. It may be deemed as academic misconduct if you communicate with another person during your exam.
  • Food and drink: As per on-campus exam arrangements, only water is permitted during your exam.
  • Comfort: Find somewhere you can sit comfortably for the entire duration of your exam. Moving your laptop partway through the exam may result in a flagged event.
