Central Library to reopen in September 2019!

Levels one and two of Central Library will reopen Monday 2 September 2019 after nine months of renovation works. We've seen you peeking through the windows and know you're curious, so here is a preview of some of the fresh new spaces and facilities. It's time to get excited!

UQ students and staff can tour the new spaces during the week of 26 August 2019!

More entries and 24/7 access

Three new entries make it easier to access Central Library 24/7 with your UQ ID card.

  • Enter level one from the Duhig Laneway (between Duhig North and Sir Llew Edwards buildings) and from Duhig Place.
  • Enter level two from the path running between Forgan Smith building and Central Library.

600+ study spaces

Levels one and two are full of comfortable individual and group spaces. The spaces are open and inviting with lots of natural light.

Meet your friends at the stairs

Take a seat or enjoy a coffee with your friends on the striking new stairs. This area has great views of Duhig Place.

Lounge while charging your devices

Charge your devices in more places, including on these long lounges, where powerpoints are set into the furniture.

Relax in a group study nook

Grab a window seat with views of Forgan Smith building.

Practice your presentations

Book and use the 12-N206 Presentation Room to practise your delivery. Familiarise yourself with the equipment in your lecture room before you present.

Individual study spaces with recessed lighting.

Eat and socialise

Large kitchenette and eating space

Eat your lunch or dinner in the large kitchenette area with views over Duhig Place and Campbell Road.

New cafe on level one

A new cafe will open on level one of Central Library later this year. Enjoy a coffee while you study or some lunch in Duhig Place or the level two kitchenette.

Other features

  • Meet in style: grab a group meeting pod or book one of six additional meeting rooms on level two.
  • Chill out: enjoy a walk on the nature trail through the new garden or sit on the podium seats outside the new level 2 entrance.
