Central Library High-Use and Requested Items section closed Monday 24 June

On Monday 24 June, 8am-4pm, the High-Use and Requested Items section on level one of Central Library is closed. We are reorganising this space as part of ongoing library renovations.

Learning resources and facilities in the space will be unavailable

While the High-Use and Requested Items section is closed you will be unable to access the resources and facilities inside, including:

  • Learning resources (the High-Use collection)
  • The returns bin and returns shelf
  • Lockers
  • Group meeting rooms N105, N105A, N106 and N106A
  • Assistive technology rooms N107A, B and C
  • Individual study rooms N107D and E.

We will re-open the space once it has been reorganised. The area to the right-hand side of the entry door will be boarded off at a later time for renovation works. This will not affect your access to the High-Use section.

Access your requested items and return your loans at the AskUs service point

Visit the AskUs service point in Central Library from 8am to:

  • collect any items you have requested, including document delivery
  • return your loans, including learning resources. Our staff will check them back in for you.

Why we are reorganising the space

Library upgrades to transform levels one and two of Central Library into brand new student spaces have been underway since late 2018. Part of the space used by the current High-Use and Requested Items section will be turned into a new training room and student study space. To do this, we will:

  • move the High-Use and Requested Items shelves and books from the right-hand side of the room to the left-hand side
  • remove the High-Use returns shelf and one of the self-service machines
  • move the remaining self-service machine, multifunction printer and returns box so they fit in the front left-hand side of the space
  • board off the right-hand side of the room.

A brand new High-Use and Requested Items section is coming soon

Levels one and two of Central Library will re-open in Semester 2, 2019. As this happens, our High-Use and Requested items will move into a purpose-built space in the newly renovated area. The new section will be open 24/7 and feature accessible shelving and automatic return shelves.
