UQ Library Cyberschool Service to cease, 30 November 2018

The UQ Library Cyberschool service will cease on 30 November 2018. Thank you to our member schools for your support over the years.

This post will explain the Library’s services for secondary schools going forward. Where possible, we will suggest alternative services.

Database/eBook quotes, trials and subscriptions

During November, we will email member schools, and vendors, a copy of the database product information from our website, including products by subject and from a selection of vendors.

You can use this information to find and subscribe to databases or eBooks for 2019. For the small number of schools that logged in to their products via the Library website, we will include instructions on how to update your login links accordingly.

  • Requests for database/eBook quotes, trials and subscriptions will cease on Friday 23 November 2018.
  • Product information will be removed from our website on 30 November 2018.

For schools with subscriptions: this change will not disrupt your current subscriptions. Vendors will contact your school about renewals as they arise.

Visiting UQ

The University continues to welcome students to our campuses to use our physical resources.

School groups who wish to visit the University of Queensland should contact the UQ School Liaison Team school.liaison@uq.edu.au. See opportunities for high school students for more information.

Resources for teachers

We have contacted member schools about our Libguides. They will be removed from our website on 14 December 2018 but remain available until the end of 2019 via the following links. They will not be updated.

We encourage you to copy the guides if your school subscribes to Libguides, or the content into other formats.

Annual seminar

Our annual seminar will not run from 2019 onwards.

State Library of Queensland is considering offering an annual seminar, a professional development event, for secondary teachers and teacher librarians.

We will contact you about this event via the Cyberschool mailing list.

Student memberships

Individual secondary school students are welcome to visit the UQ Library and borrow physical books.

  • After Friday 23 November 2018, students may apply for a Community membership ($25 per year). Our borrowing rules explain what you can borrow and for how long.
  • Year 11 students with a current Cyberschool membership issued on or before 23 November will retain it until the end of 2019.
